In October 2009, a new bill was passed in state government requiring all non-medical homecare agencies to be certified. Prior to the bill, there was no certification or liscensing process in KY. SCE works with ElderServe and Assurance Home Care to provide non-medical homecare. This new bill meant that all three agencies had to be certified. The process included new police checks and drug tests on all homecare employees. Because all three agencies had always included these standards, we just had to update all the checks and tests to submit with the certification materials. Now all agencies in Kentucky are waiting patiently for the state government department who is in charge, to wade through the mountains of paperwork involved in the process and send each agency their certification.
