SeniorCare Experts Home Delivered Meals - Importance of Good Nutrition for Seniors

Good nutrition is important for all ages, but it is crucial for seniors as they age and physical capacity declines. Research has shown that when seniors do not eat nutritionally well-balanced diets, they can develop symptoms of serious disease or illness, which can lead to costly health treatment. SeniorCare Experts' Meals Program chefs follow the nutritional standards of the Child and Adult Food and Nutrition Program. Meals are prepared with fresh ingredients, and with no added salt or sugar. Color in fruits and vegetables is an important nutritional tip used to keep meals healthy.

Older adults in Jefferson County qualify for the program if they are age 60+, or have a temporary need such as recent hospital discharge, are frail, or suffer a disability. Home delivered meals can help ensure that a homebound personMeal maintains adequate nutrition.

SeniorCare Experts Home Delivered Meals program serves approximately 25,000 meals per year from five local kitchen/meal pick up sites. Over 100 volunteers carry these meals to seniors' homes on a daily basis.
