There are many things that we can do to our homes to make them more “livable” as we age.  Some of the quick fixes like eliminating throw rugs and extension cords to prevent falls we can do ourselves.  Many changes like modifications to your bathroom require an experienced provider.  For example, grab bars to safely get in and out of the shower/tub or installation of a “higher” toilet to make it easier to stand afterwards make life safer at home.  Likewise routine maintenance around our home demands the need for a trusted source of assistance.

SCE has partnered with YouthBuild of Louisville to offer help to our senior community with this need.  YouthBuild is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting teens to re-focus their lives: complete their high school education and prepare to continue their education while developing a sound work ethic.  They are always supervised by skilled professionals while learning/completing various maintenance and construction projects.

The YouthBuild work teams are ready to do almost anything around the house.  Call us with your request. We will consult with the YouthBuild team to see if they can do it.  More complex electrical work, behind-the-wall plumbing, and difficult carpentry are areas where they will probably have to refer licensed tradesmen.  You can be assured that you are getting an honest and reliable provider.
