As most in-home care services are not paid by Medicare, Medicaid or health insurance, it is important to be able to provide these needed services at an affordable rate. Your charitable contributions help SCE do just that. For many seniors (and loved ones), our mission and services represent their choice and desire to age in place independently.

We are happy that you are interested in supporting the mission of SCE. There are many options for charitable giving. Some are listed here. Please be sure to check with your financial advisor before finalizing your gifts. For simple gift giving, please click on our Donate Now button to make a gift on-line.

Seniors in the Louisville area thank you!

  • Cash Gifts: Currency, personal checks, money orders and major credit cards. Gifts are tax deductible.
  • Matching Gifts: Many employers offer matching gift programs. This is a great way to make your gift reach further. Check with your employer to see if charitable gift matching is offered.
  • Marketable Securities: donating a security which is subject to long term capital gains is often advantageous. Avoid payment of capital gains tax on the increase in the value of the stock. Receive deduction for full fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift, subject to limitations.
  • Life Insurance: If you have life insurance that your heirs don't need, consider naming SCE the beneficiary of the policy. The policy proceeds are then deductible for your estate tax purposes. There may be other tax advantages as well. Check with your advisor.
Bequest in a Will: Bequest of a dollar amount, securities, property, a portion of your estate or contingent bequest to take effect if your beneficiaries die before the testator. A bequest can often be arranged simply with the addition of a codicil amending an existing will.
  • Qualified Benefit Plans including IRAs and 401k plans: Consider naming SCE the beneficiary of your plan. Avoid both the income and estate tax which would otherwise be payable on these plans.

Please note: Small donations less than $250 do not require a receipt to be deductible, but it is always a good idea to keep a receipt for donations. For a tax deduction to be valid, a charitable organization must be classified as a 501(c)3 organization (which SCE is). File for the deduction in the same year you make the donation. You will need to itemize your tax deductions on the 1040 form.
